I watched “Ray” tonight. It was amazing. I now know what Jamie Foxx
will look like in 40 years. He was so much like Ray Charles that it was
crazy. Some of the things I learned about in the extras of the DVD,
were, that he actually played the part blind. Not with glasses on. Not
with his eyes closed. They actually had some sort of prostetic that
they covered his eyes with to make his eyes look like Ray’s eyes. Jamie
Foxx also already knew how to play piano. In fact, he majored in it.
All the piano playing is him……….playing it blind! I’ll tell ya,
if he doesn’t get an oscar for this, then it will be a complete
travesty.I didn’t know that Ray Charles sang so many songs I knew, or that I had
forgotten about, like “The Messaround.” On the other hand, all these
years, I thought he was the one that sang “I heard it through the
grapevine” but it turns out thats actually Marvin Gaye. Still, its
amazing his appeal. Try finding somebody that doesn’t know or like a
Ray Charles song.As good as the movie was, his mother was even more amazing. She taught
him how to be blind! The scenes with her in it, really reflect how
strong of a person she was. She must have been just an amazing person.
Always doing what was best for him, no matter how much it tore
her up inside. That, my friends, is what good parenting is all about,
having the ability to do whats best for your child, even though it
hurts you even more to watch your child go through it. Of course, this
is also what helped to make him the amazing person he was.
