  • Busy Time And The Livin’s Easy

I’ve had a pretty good yet pretty busy weekend but wanted to make a quick post since I haven’t posted since fucking Monday. Friday night I went to dinner at my brother’s house. Afterward we played Risk. What exactly is Risk you ask? It’s a game of world domination being played by a few guys who can barely run their own lives. The game, however, was epic. It was just me and my two brothers and it lasted about four and a half hours. In the end though my older brother won. It came down to just him and me and my measly last army in, ironically, Japan of all places.

Last night I went to my friend’s annual St. Patrick’s Day party which is always a good time. This year she had a bagpipper play a short set of music on the bagpipe, which is always really cool. I love bagpipes.

Now I’ve got a kid’s birthday party to go to in a couple of hours. I hope to have some real posts sometime this week.

  • The Advance

I had a really tough day at work today and towards the end of it, I came up with a great fucking idea. I asked my boss for an advance on the daylight savings hour we are going to get this weekend. The way I see it, this whole spring ahead bullshit couldn’t happen at a worse fucking time. They do it on a Saturday night and most years its falls right around St. Patrick’s Day. This year, like the previous three or four years, I’ve got a St. Patty’s Day party to go to the same weekend as the fucking time change. Yeah, that’s just what I need, one less hour in the weekend!

See, for most people, Saturday night is the biggest party night of the week. A lot of people drink on Saturday night. And we all know time flies right the fuck by when you are drunk. See, there is sober time and than there is DRUNK TIME. Sober time is usually when you are at work during the week and you can’t wait for the weekend to have DRUNK TIME. So, naturally, sober time fucking drags. It’s like you look at the goddamn clock and you can swear it ticks backward. The work week blows and takes forfuckingever. Then, finally its Saturday. DRUNK TIME!!

And what happens? DRUNK TIME moves at like 10 times the speed of sober time. There you are at a party or hanging out with friends having a total kick ass time. You pop your first beer or down your first drink and think “well fuck, it’s only 8 o’clock, it’s still early, we have like at least six or eight more hours of this.” Than you look at the clock like five minutes later and holy fuck, what the hell just happened, its goddamn 2:30 in the pissfuck morning! MOTHERFUCKER!

So that brings me back to this Saturday. We spring ahead and lose an hour of party time. Like drinking and driving, DRUNK TIME and daylight savings time don’t mix. The last thing you need when you are out having a good time is one less hour to have fun. It sucks. You can’t help but feel ripped off.

See, with my idea, you use that hour any time during the week of the time change. Look, why the fuck should I spend more time at work than I need to and why should I be forced to party and have a good time for an hour less than what I normally would do. It’s total fucking bullshit.

And I think we can take it a step further. Hell, why limit it to the week we are springing ahead, maybe that is spring break week and shit, we don’t need LESS spring break, we need MORE. So I say save it up and use it anytime before the fall time change. Just think how much happier everybody would be. No lost hour of sleep, no lost DRUNK TIME, and less work time. People should be able to use it whenever they want. Maybe I’m some sort of asshole who wants to spring ahead on a Saturday, than fine, you spring ahead then. But, maybe I want to spring ahead on Friday afternoon at like four, than why the fuck not? Everybody has their right to spring ahead whenever they want, it is their own business.  Honestly, it is a win win for everybody, I mean what could possibly be bad about it.

Oh. Right. The chaos of everybody picking different hours.

  • The Reagan Family

Recently I watched the HBO documentary on Ronald Reagan. Now I’m a huge, longtime liberal, so naturally, Reagan would not be one of my favorite politicians. But I’ve always had a fascination with presidents, so there is a certain mystique and appeal even to him, even though I did not support him in the least and feel that he is probably our most overrated president. Of course, conservatives have a total different view of him; elevating him to sainthood like he is the next closest thing to their Jesus. Was he a good president or a bad president.  The reality is that he was somewhere in between. What I learned is that like many presidents, his legacy and presidency is complicated.

One thing I learned is that he used to actually be a liberal but converted sometime in the 1960s. Could you imagine how different things would have been had he never converted? He probably would have won when he ran in 1976 instead of Jimmy Carter, changing the whole landscape for more than a decade. But, I digress.

If you took the label away and I told you there was a president who doubled the national debt and traded arms for hostages, an overwhelming majority of Republicans would loathe that president, yet Reagan gets a pass from Republicans. Not just a pass, but they either bury their head so far in the sand that it comes out the other side and goes straight up their ass, or they choose to enable and make up excuses for him, like he was old and didn’t know what was going on.

Certainly, he was a gazillion times better than George W. Bush, but than again, that’s not very hard, hell even Jimmy Carter was a gazillion times better than Bush and Jimmy Carter was awful. Reagan did do some great things. He was the leader in beating Russia, although contrary to what Republicans would have you believe, he was not the sole reason for the fall of communism.

He was certainly a likable guy. Seriously, how could you not like somebody who smiled as much as he did and who seemed to have that every guy demeanor and was easy to talk to. Certainly there is a reason why he won reelection in 1984 by winning every single state but Minnesota. Than again, the American people are stupid; they tend to vote for people based on if they like them or how they look, not based on their policies or competencies.

Perhaps the thing I find most fascinating about Reagan is not actually about Ronald Reagan himself. Somehow, his own son, Ron Reagan, is a flaming, Atheist, liberal. I’ve got to wonder how he turned out that way? One thing is for sure, does take after his dad in the sense that he is likable, charming, friendly, and easy going. I really wish he would run for president, but I think he is too smart to want to go through the shit that any president goes through.

  • Been A While

Jeez, it seems like it has been forever since I last updated or visited any other sites. Than again, it has been since Monday, which is an eternity for me on Xanga, especially during the week since I do most of my posting during the week. Needless to say, it has been a very busy and interesting week for me and unfortunately, I don’t have a heck of a lot of time to update right now, so I will have to fill all of yous in later.

    Until then……….
