I heard on Bill Maher the other day that America has FINALLY turned the corner: 53% of Americans approve of gay marriage. This has been a long time coming. I’ve long said that it is only a matter of time before gay marriage is legal across the land and this is more proof of it. The wheels of justice move slowly but once they get going, they can be impossible to stop.
I just wish that President Obama would take that bold step of coming out and supporting gay marriage. Honestly, you know he does support it but is too much of a pussy to admit it; too afraid of what he would lose politically. Back in December when asked about gay marriage he responded by saying his thoughts and opinions were “evolving” which is political speak for “once a majority of the country supports it, I will support it since I won’t have as much to lose.”
It is not only him. It is pretty much most of the Democratic party that is for gay marriage but too afraid to admit it. It is frustrating because the only way we are going to win this battle. Look, we will never have the full fledging support of the Republican party. Come to think of it, we will never have pretty much any support from the Republican party. In fact, the Republican party won’t just not support us, they will kick, scream, and fight to keep us down for a long as possible. Fuck I hate the Republicans. But I digress…..
I think we should rejoice in the fact that a majority of the country is finally for gay marriage. I didn’t expect this to happen anytime soon, especially with this large backlash of extreme conservatism that has hit America. Is it possible that gay marriage could come to all of America within 10 years? I’ve been saying for a long time that it could come down to the Supreme Court, which does not bode well since the Court is a majority conservative. But, hopefully Obama will win reelection and get to appoint one or more to the bench, increasing the odds of gay marriage bans being ruled unconstitutional.
Just think about this for a second. Gays have never been more accept in America. What a great time we live in but potential for much greater times.
