  So Friday was April 20, also known as Weed Day. Like a hell of a lot of other people, I believe it should be legal. But, I have documented this countless times here on this site, so I would like to take this post in a bit of a different direction. I was driving home from work on Friday playing every single song about pot that I could think of and trying to think of what is the best song about pot. I came up with quite a few, however I just learned a few minutes ago that the Black Crowes did a whole entire album dedicated to pot so I’m sure I’m leaving some songs out. And I only know a couple of Willie Nelson songs and none of them are about pot, which is funny since he is one of the world’s all time notorious tokers. So here are the songs I came up with:

  • “Smoke Two Joints“- Sublime- A lot of people don’t realize that Subilme actually remade this song, the original artist escapes me right now and I’m too lazy to work. Unlike many other songs about pot, this one is not subtle in the least.
  • “Mary Jane’s Last Dance“- Tom Petty- My friends and I are pretty certain this one is about pot. But, unlike them I still have my doubts. Great song though.
  • “Because I Got High“-Afroman- Like “Smoke Two Joints” this one is pretty fucking obvious. At the end though, I don’t think it is a pro pot song.
  • “Sweet Leaf“-Black Sabbath- I’ve never been a big Sabbath fan, hell this one is pretty good.
  • “Rainy Day Woman #12 and #35- Bob Dylan- This one is probably the most misunderstood song about pot ever in that it is not actually about pot. But, the word stoned is mentioned so often in the song that people assume it is about pot.
  • “Green Day“- Green Day- This is actually how Green Day got their name, it refers to a day when all you want to do is sit around and smoke pot.
  • “Puff The Magic Dragon“-Peter, Paul, And Mary- I don’t know about you, but I can never hear this song and not think of the infamous scene in Meet The Parents with Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller when they argue about the true meaning of this song. 

  I’m quite certain I’m leaving songs out but you tell me what other songs belong on this list?
