  • Before I get into anything about yesterday, I want to share something
with anybody who might read this blog. One of my 3 (only 3…..how
lonley)  subscriptions on xanga (iusedtobeneat click on it
sometime) is a blog for a very amazing person. Although I have never
met him, I have chatted with him a lot over the course of the last 14
months and have had the wonderful experience of getting to know him.
Even though he is 12 years younger then me, I look up to him as being a
postitve member of not only the gay community, but just
of………..well, of any communtiy I guess. Anywho he had to give a
speach in front of his school board, I will put it on here right now.
The way he cares about people getting along brings a tear to my eye,
and I hope you can all feel the same way I do.

    “My name is William
Reed. I’m a junior at Oak Forest High School and I am an active member
in many school organizations. I am an honors student and a member of
the National Honor Society. In my two and a half years as a student of
Bremen High School District 228, I have noticed intolerance in all of
its forms. As you know I, along with the people standing with me, are
    here to request a district-wide Gay/Straight Alliance in BHSD228.

A Gay/Straight Alliance is a student-run club that would have several different functions.

    One of the club’s
functions would be as a support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and questioning students, as well as straight friends and
    supporters.

    A second function
would be to promote acceptance and education regarding other lifestyles
and to try to end homophobia within our district.

A third function would be as a social group for gay and straight students to come together and socialize without stigma.

    To fulfill these
functions we would hold district-wide after school meetings as well as
participate in nationwide events such as the Day of Silence.

    There are many
students within the district that feel a GSA is needed because they
have both experienced and observed intolerance toward gay students in
regards to their sexual orientation.  97% of high schools surveyed reported an anti-gay environment on a daily basis.  According
to a petition generated in District 228 in the final week of 04-05’s
first semester, over 400 students think this GSA is necessary. The
petition was trying to find support from the student body, but we ended
up with some faculty signatures as well, bringing our numbers to nearly
500 people. Keep in mind that these are students in a select number of
classes. I can hardly imagine the response we would see if we were able
to ask every class in every school if they wanted this club.

    We are not trying to
keep our goals a secret from anyone. Based on the surveys, close to 50
faculty members support and feel a need to develop such a club.
Students are showing their support by placing equality stickers
everywhere from their planners, to their lockers, to their tee shirts.  Ten years ago the average age for a gay or lesbian person to “come out of the closet” was 28 years old.  Today it is 15, therefore a supportive and safe high school environment is crucial to teenagers needing connections.

    We would definitely
not be the only district in Illinois who is doing this. In the
Chicagoland area high schools alone there are 59 Gay/Straight Alliances
registered with GLSEN, an organization that envisions a world in which
every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of
sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. Among these schools
are Oak Park and River Forest, Shepard, Sandburg, Stagg, Taft, and all
of the Glenbard and Glenbrook schools.

    Bremen High School
District’s motto is “All For One,” a motto that the district has been
encouraging within the last decade. We must not forget that gay
students are also members of our district.  And
all students, regardless of their backgrounds, deserve to be included,
recognized, and supported in an “All For One” atmosphere.  In education, we always hear that we should “leave no child behind,” so let’s not leave any gay student behind.

    We
are asking the District 228 Board of Education to please recognize and
institute the GSA organization for the improvement and equality of
    student life.”

Way to go Bill! You will always have my complete support.

    So,
last night was my big date…………was it a date? Yeah, I think it
was. Anywho, we met at a place called Shanahan’s in Downers Grove.
Parking was a bitch, but there was a sign that said parking available
next door. I parked next store and some old guy with a Polish accent
came up to me and said I couldn’t park there, so I had to move it. Pain
in the ass! The next paragraph is entierly made up, none of this
happened, unless otherwise noted but I thought it would be more
interesting than just hearing about how we talked

    I
walked in and looked around, the place was packed and my eyes glanced
for one guy sitting at a table by himself (TRUE FACT). Kevin said he
would be the guy with the blank look on his face (TRUE FACT), and I saw
him sitting at a table near the window. He looked almost like he did in
his pic, except he has a really cute smile (TRUE FACT………ok, so I
guess it was opinion). I said hi and sat down. We took one look at each
other and started having hot, wild man sex right there on the table. In
the middle of a very loud moan, I realized that the person I was
currently pleasuring was actually the waitress. In fact, I wasn’t even
at the right table. And it wasn’t even the right gender. After our
little sex-capade, we ordered dinner. I ordered everything on the menu
(the Italian wedding soup was really really good……TRUE FACT), Kevin
ordered a burger. It was really weird, because he insisted on eating his
fries with salad tongs for some reason. I hate about 3/4 of what was
given to me, the rest I played with and threw at a group of senior
citizens playing knasta at their table. Kevin told me that I was a lot
uglier in person, and I told him he had an odor that reminded me of a
hospital bed pan. What was really amazing, was that the whole time we
were there, I did not spill anything (TRUE FACT……….really, its
true) and as far as I can see, i did not embarass
myself………….well, at least not to Kevin, but I’m sure I made an
ass out of myself to the rest of the place. After a while, Kevin got up
to go to the bathroom. I decided at that time to stiff him with the
bill, so I raced out of the resturant and sped home.

    The
truth was we had a lovely meal. We went back to his place and watched a
movie. Yadda Yadda Yadda, I was really tired this morning.
