All right, by popular demand, here is a link so that everybody can
click on it and find out just what a Hollaback girl is. It has the
lyrics to the song by Gwen Steffani along with a translation, you know,
for white people that aren't hip. As we all know, non-celebrity white
people aren't hip, they pretty much follow the lead of the black people
they know. Honestly, blacks are way more hip than whites. Usually, the
blacks are the trendsetters and come up with something hip. By the time
the whites get around to it, its no longer hip and the hip people have
moved on to something else, its really quite frustrating for people
like myself. Its like we are always missing the joke or showing up late
to the party. Anywho, here is the link:http://www.slangcity.com/songs/hollaback_girl.htm
If you go down to the bottom of the page, there is a little glossery of terms.
Today, I made the purchase of the Simpsons 6th season DVD. Damn, I love
that show. There are some classic, great episodes in the 6th season. It
just helps to re-confirm to me that the Simpsons is one of the top 5 tv
shows of all time. Its not even the fact that its sooooooo damn funny
that makes it so good. Sure, that helps, but the social commentary and
the way they skeur (spelling please) pop culture, politics, religon and
the world in general that makes it so great. Nothing is off limits.
They even make fun of themselves. A lot. Anyhthing goes. I know a lot
of people say its not nearly as funny and as good as it used to be and
I do agree to an extent. But, the last 2 seasons, they have had some
very good episodes mixed in with some bad ones. They have really become
very political recently, even moreso then earlier seasons. For example,
in the 2003-04 season, they had an episode that poked a lot of fun at
those patriotically correct losers. Other episodes in the last 2
seasons have had gay money.........I mean, gay marraige (thats a line
from the episode.......classic) leaglized in Springfield, they have had
Homer thinking the end of the world was coming, and Bart as a Catholic.
All of them will become Simpsons classics someday. As for this 6th
season that I bought today, it is amazing. I watched about 5 or 6
episodes and it just cracked me up so much, my stomach was hurting from
laughing so hard. So many of my favorites and classic episodes from
this season, such as Marge becoming a cop, Marge being afraid of
flying, the lemon tree being stolen, when Marge got pregnant with
Maggie, among many others I didn't get a chance to watch on the DVD
yet. And, there are so many subliminal jokes, when you watch them
first run, you are unable to stop and read some of the fast moving
jokes. Granted, I have seen every episode, but older episodes from,
say, before the 10th season are not aired as often in syndication.
Plus, there are so many to choose from, over 325 episodes. So, going
back and watching these episodes I haven't seen in a long time makes me
appreciate them even more so. Plus, they are not edited for
syndication, so that means I'm seeing stuff I haven't seen since it was
orignally aired. Damn, I love this show much, I can't get enough of it.
When I think about it, though, in my year of being on this blog, I
think this is the first time I have written in-depth about the
Simpsons.
