  • I could tell you all about my weekend, Friday night playing cards, Saturday doing things but right now, I'm so disappointed and that is what is dominating my thoughts right now. When your team loses the Super Bowl, well, that just Super Blows. I was so excited when I woke up today. As far as sports goes, I was as excited as I had been since the morning of Game 6 (I don't even have to explain what Game 6 was, you should know what I'm talking about) back in October of 2003. I could not wait until the Super Bowl started. Its not even that I was confident that the Bears would win. Sure, I thought they had a chance, but I really knew the game could go either way. But since they beat the Saints, there has been a buzz in this city. Its been great. You coulnd't help but be excited about it. Even though the game didn't start until 5:20, I was so excited I was at Mark's house by 4:40. When the game started, Mark was downstairs doing something. He had the game on down there and we had the game on upstairs. The big screen upstairs has HD, the tv downstairs does not and for those of you that don't know, the HD signal is probably a good 10 seconds behind the non HD signal. So, Mark saw the kick off before we did. I could hear him screaming "YES! GO, GO GO!!" By the time Hester got to the Bears 40, I knew he was gone, I was jumping up and down because I could hear Mark downstairs screaming and cheering. I was so excited, I was giving everybody high five, even Jt before running downstairs to celebrate with Mark. Even though the Bears eventually would go up 14-6, that was the highlight of the game for us. When Grossman threw his last interception, with just over 5 minutes left, we knew it was over and I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. To come this far and lose.................its so disappointing. The funny part is that if they are going to lose, I would rather have the stinging disappointment of them losing the Super Bowl than the embarrassment of not even making the playoffs. Shit, at least they were there. In a few days I will be able to look back and say "yeah, this was a big disappointment, but at least they got there. The season was a success, although we won't be satisfied until they win the damn Super Bowl. Sure, I want my teams to win the championship every year, but you just have to look at progress in the right direction. Last year, they didn't win a playoff game. This year, they lose in the Super Bowl. Next year, if all goes as planned, they should win the Super Bowl.

Still, it amazes me how simple minded people can be. I know that all of Chicago is going to sit there and pin this one on Grossman, who by the way, did play very gross, man, in the 4th quarter. But, as I always say, you win as a team and you lose as a team. Sure, those interceptions really hurt. But, it wasn't Grossman that gave up 430 total yards. Also, the Colts creamed the Bears in time of possession, 38:04-21:56 and usually the team that wins the time of possession battle wins the game. The Colts had 24 first downs to the Bears 11. There were a couple of easy dropped passes by the Bears as well. So, before anybody points the finger squarly and only on Rex, look at all the facts. The defense and the rest of the team are just as much to blame as he is. But, to be honest, at the end of the day, the Colts are a better team. Nobody wanted to admit this at Mark's house. I tried saying this to everybody but they pretty much just told me to shove it and that I was wrong. The general rule is that whoever wins the championship at the end of the season is the best team. And its not like the Colts were heavy underdogs and the pulled a huge upset. They were favored by 7 points going into the game, that should tell you something right there. They also beat the number 2 seed in the AFC on the road. Then they came home and beat the Patriots, who, by the way, are a great team and undoubtedly better than the Bears. So before everybody blames Grossman and comes down hard on the Bears, just accept it: the bottom line is that they lost to a better team. There is no shame in that. I know its tough to admit. Everybody wants to point fingers and say its the Bears fault, but why can't it be just that the Colts are just that good? Let's face it, they earned it. They played a better game and won the Super Bowl, in my book, that makes them the better team.

Even though this is not as tough to take as the Cubs losing in 2003, this is still a very big disappointment, probably my second biggest disappointment in my history of watching sports. I will get over it though (unlike 2003...........those fuckers!). I just have to turn my attention now to other teams.

    GO BULLS!!!
